Transport for NSW has introduced a brand new technology across its state-wide Opal network expected to 'make life so much easier' for more than two millions commuters in the state.

Under the new upgrade to Opal, commuters will now be able to tap on and off using Express Mode on devices with Apple Pay - including iPhones and Apple Watches – without having to unlock them first.

Opal's Express Mode will allow for seamlessly tapping on and off without waking up or unlocking the device. Now for Apple users it’s as simple as tapping your iPhone or Apple Watch without having to wake up or unlock your screen.

“Over 65 per cent of contactless card taps we see on the Opal network are now made using a digital wallet, and Apple Pay represents the vast majority of these,” Mr Brissett said.
