The Malaysian government is taking steps to improve English language skills among students and teachers by expanding the role of the English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC). This initiative is part of a larger plan to reform the education system and strengthen English as a language of science and international communication.

The role of the English Language Teaching Centre ( ELTC ) will be expanded to enhance English proficiency among teachers and students. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that this is one of the restructuring measures undertaken for the centre to ensure the effectiveness and impact of ongoing initiatives.

She said this is among the immediate improvements to accelerate the strengthening of English as a response to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's, call to expedite initiatives to strengthen English proficiency among school students. \ 'This aligns with the Ministry of Education's (KPM) Education Reform agenda, which also focuses on elevating the status of Bahasa Melayu and strengthening English as one of the key directions for the nation's education,' she said in a statement today. Fadhlina said that the radical restructuring of ELTC is expected to impact the improvement and mastery of teachers, particularly in terms of training and teaching in the classroom. She said the KPM's focus on empowering English focuses on four primary initiatives outlined in the Malaysia Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2013-2025. These include the Highly Immersive Programme (HIP), Dual Language Programme (DLP), Online School-Based English Language Enhancement Programme, and Professional Upskilling of English Language Teachers (Pro-ELT). \ 'The optimal use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the DELIMA platform has also become a key driver in enhancing English proficiency among students.' 'The KPM expresses its appreciation for the Prime Minister's concern regarding education issues and will continue to work hard to reform the national education system to improve the quality of education in the country,' she added.
