WASPI campaigners are calling for at least £10,000 in compensation for every woman affected.
WASPI - short for Women Against State Pension Inequality - is a campaigning group for women affected by changes to the state pension age.
What is WASPI? WASPI campaigners say women born in the 1950s experienced financial hardship as their retirement plans were directly hit after the state pension age increase, reports LancsLive. WASPI has long been fighting for fair compensation and the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman is currently looking into whether the DWP should pay compensation for failing to adequately communicate the age changes. Campaigners are calling for a minimum of £10,000 compensation for every woman affected.
Because of the way the increases to the State Pension age were brought in for women born in the 1950s, WASPI says many have faced hardships, financial or otherwise. WASPI women do not have to register anywhere to receive any compensation, should it be offered. The Ombudsman website states: "If we make recommendations, we will ask DWP to apply those recommendations to everyone who has been affected by any failings we identify."
