PETALING JAYA: It’s going to be a very daunting challenge for the national Under-22 football squad to bring back the gold medal after they were drawn in the “Group of Death” for the Cambodia SEA Games men’s competition next month.

In the draw that took place in Cambodia yesterday, Malaysia will have to deal with defending champions Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Laos in Group B.

Thailand and Vietnam are currently seen as the two best teams in the region having just participated in the Doha Cup alongside Asian powerhouses like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Malaysia’s last appearance in the men’s football final was when the country hosted the SEA Games in 2017. Then, Malaysia lost 0-1 to Thailand.
