During the altercation, police applied physical force and used a CEW, often referred to as a Taser, ASIRT said, and a 39-year-old man who was arrested received medical treatment at the scene that included the removal of CEW probes. The man sustained bruising to his forehead and lower lip and CEW probe marks on his back.Article content

ASIRT was directed to investigate the incident three days later, found reasonable grounds to believe that the officers committed an offence, and forwarded the case to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service in accordance with the Police Act, ASIRT said Thursday. The evidence met ACPS’s standard for prosecution and ASIRT executive director Michael Ewenson determined the officers should be charged.

Const. Dustin Adsett and former Const. Oli Olason were jointly charged with assault as well as assault with a weapon, and both are scheduled to appear in Edmonton provincial court on Nov. 9.— With files from Dylan Short
