Trudeau’s predicted deficits were $9.9 billion in 2016, $9.5 billion in 2017, $5.7 billion in 2018 and a $1 billion surplus in 2019. Trudeau’s actual deficits were $19 billion in 2016, another $19 billion in 2017, $14 billion in 2018 and $39.4 billion in 2019 — the year before the pandemic hit..Starting in 2020, because of the pandemic, the prospect of balanced budgets in the immediate future became unrealistic for understandable reasons.
