Canadians should be deeply concerned about China’s alleged attempts to influence our elections.

While China denies any interference, the allegations include Chinese officials and diaspora groups spreading disinformation about Conservative candidates, while making illegal campaign donations and offering behind-the-scenes support to candidates favoured by China — mainly Liberal but a few Conservatives as well.Article content

Following the 2021 election, then-Conservative leader Erin O’Toole said interference by China cost the Conservatives up to nine seats. CEIPP — based on security briefings — concluded China’s attempts to interfere in the last two elections didn’t rise to the “high level” threshold that threatened the overall integrity of the vote.
