Former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has unleashed on the Tasmanian community who are fiercely against a new AFL stadium being built in Hobart, warning the island state to 'do it properly or don't do it at all'.
McGuire questioned if anyone in Tasmania had looked at the"economic impact of what will happen" if the stadium goes ahead.
McGuire said the economic impacts of major events in Victoria have turned the state from being a"rust bucket place in the 90s, into the world's most liveable city within 20 years." "I find it highly, highly insulting to the AFL. None of the clubs wanted this originally... everyone is prepared to do it, but not if these people don't want it."
McGuire said if Tasmanians don't want to support a new stadium, then the funds can be put towards junior development, however he reiterated"if you're not going to come to the AFL level, you don't get an AFL team."
