Pop-up swimming spots could be built in harbour parks and playing fields in the eastern suburbs this summer.
Temporary swimming pools could be created in foreshore parks and playing grounds in Sydney’s eastern suburbs over the summer to combat traffic chaos and overcrowding caused by the ongoing closure of a popular harbour beach.
A temporary water-based obstacle course was installed in Centennial Park during the school holidays, while Moore Park’s Entertainment Quarter had inflatable pools and slides last summer. Sydney Water’s Urban Plunge program aims to facilitate swimming and aquatic recreation in waterways across Greater Sydney, including temporary pools in locations that lack swim sites.“Pop-up swim sites could be located in a range of locations including town centres, shopping centre car parks, large hard standings within city parks, accessible land adjacent to a potential swim site or areas of land awaiting development,” the program’s website said.
