The NSW casino regulator says it needs more time to decide what to do about the struggling Star Entertainment Group after receiving the findings of a damning report into the company’s culture, while the group’s executives scramble to keep the casino business financially viable.
“Notwithstanding that improvements have been made, and are in the process of being made, it cannot be ignored that the board of Star Entertainment has, in some important respects, failed to provide the necessary leadership and oversight,” Bell said. “The NICC is contemplating Mr Bell’s findings, including four compliance breaches, and will respond in due course.”
NSW Independent Casino Commission chief commissioner Philip Crawford said on Friday that the Bell report’s findings had validated the regulator’s concerns, but he needs more time to make a decision about whether to shut the Sydney casino down.
