Children from across an area the size of the UK have gathered in WA's remote, red heartland for the annual Dust Up festival.

The Dust Up festival gives WA children a chance to play sports, participate in arts and connect with culture.Children raise a banner and cheer below a towering red escarpment in one of the most remote parts of the country.

The event, about 1,700 kilometres north-east of Perth in the remote Ngaanyatjarra lands, has been a highlight for the communities.It has given children who live across an area about the size of the United Kingdom the chance to play sports, participate in arts and connect with culture and each other.They were glad to have made the effort."We saw a lot of camels and sand hills ," she said.

The event's coordinator, who cannot be named for cultural reasons, said Dust Up always generated plenty of excitement.
