Durham's health department says it is keeping an eye on recent reports of dead birds that have been found in the Uxbridge area for potential avian influenza.
Nervousness, tremors or lack of coordinationSudden deathYou are urged to stay away from wild birds and animals. Do not feed or handle them, especially if they look sick or dead.
If you come across any birds that are in distress, ill or deceased, you can call Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Control at 905-985-9547. You can also email them at [email protected] hereYou may want to consider removing the bird feeders and baths in your backyard, or clean them every two weeks with 10 per cent bleach. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.You may want to keep your cats inside and your dogs on a leash.
If you find a dead bird on your property, you should bury it or double-bag it and throw it in the garbage. Wear gloves while handling the carcass and wash your hands after.
