The Philippines is now experiencing a “second wave” of novel coronavirus infections, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said on May 20, Wednesday. Duque made the announcement during the Senate committee of the whole’s hearing on the government’s COVID-19 response, when asked by Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. on what should be done to prevent a possible second wave.

The Philippines is now experiencing a “second wave” of novel coronavirus infections, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said on May 20, Wednesday.

Citing “seasoned” epidemiologists, Duque said the first wave started in January when three Chinese tourists tested positive for COVID-19. The first COVID-19 cases were from Wuhan, China, where the virus originated.Duque apparently referred to the opinions of Dr. John Wong, who is working with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases subtechinical working group on data analytics.
