Lilibet christened at small ceremony at couple’s Montecito home in California
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s daughter, Lilibet, has been given her formal royal title of “Princess” for the first time in the announcement of her christening.
The magazine reported that invitations had been extended to King Charles, Camilla, the Queen Consort, and the Prince and Princess of Wales, but they were not in attendance. The issue over whether their children would receive titles has been one of intense speculation, fuelled when Meghan suggestedthat her son Archie was denied his birthright of the title of prince by the palace because he was mixed race and that the decision went against protocol. However, when Archie was born, he was a great-grandchild of a monarch, and not the firstborn of a future king, so was not automatically a prince at that time.
