The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) signed an agreement to provide P10,000 to Saudi Arabian OFWs who were unpaid due to their employer's bankruptcy.
The memorandum of agreement was signed by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and DMW Secretary Susan V. Ople on Saturday, March 11.
According to the agreement, DSWD will allot P50 million from its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations program to DMW-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration as an additional fund for the initiative. The two agencies will give P5,000 each, amounting to a total of P10,000, to at least 10,000 Saudi OFWs who lost jobs after their employer declared closure from 2015 to 2016.
Among these companies were Saudi Oger Ltd. and Mohammad Al Mojil Group of Companies, said DSWD in a Facebook post. Also present at the event were DSWD Undersecretary for Operations Group Jerico Francis L. Javier, DMW Undersecretary for Foreign Employment and Welfare Services Cluster Hans Leo J. Cacdac, and OWWA Administrator Arnel Ignacio.
