MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development said on Saturday that the agency would accept food donations from restaurants and fast food establishments as it encouraged individuals who would want to render volunteer service at the newly-opened 'Walang Gutom Kitchen' . DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, in a video message posted on its Facebook page, called on organizations and individuals to be part of the project as they welcomed food and service donations.

Gatchalian also stressed that WGK will also also prevent food wastage aside from addressing involuntary hunger. He said the DSWD has an agreement with some hotels, restaurants and fast food stores that would donate their unconsumed food for a day instead of throwing it away. With the program, food wastage will now be largely addressed as these establishments will simply bring their unconsumed food to WGK in Pasay, he said.
