PETALING JAYA: The plight of hawkers who have been forced to close shop due to road works along Route FT050 (Batu Pahat-Ayer Hitam-Kluang) has gained the attention of Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Ayer Hitam MP said the construction site is dirty and poorly managed, making it difficult for customers to access stalls along Route FT050.
DR, who is also MCA president, said the issue was raised during a meeting with all the village heads in the Semarang state constituency, which falls under the Ayer Hitam parliamentary constituency. "I received complaints about several things, including the road widening and U-turn construction project for Route FT050, worth RM240mi, that is being carried out in the Ayer Hitam parliamentary constituency.
"I inspected the situation at the site where the stalls had to go out of business," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday . Dr Wee said he would take immediate action and take the matter to the attention of the Public Works Department and contractors so mitigation can be done so small businesses in the vicinity are able to survive.
