The ABC's managing director told Senate Estimates Dr Norman Swan has been 'counselled' over comments after the deaths of Shane Warne and Kimberley Kitching that were 'incorrect and in error'.
Dr Swan earlier this month made baseless claims on ABC News Breakfast that Ms Kitching and Warne had died from heart attacks linked to COVID-19.

Offer ends 31 October, 2023 "Certainly Dr Swan was counselled over the matter, he was spoken to about it and he was very regretful that he made those comments." "He knew that he made a mistake. Dr Swan was quite remorseful about it and as I said apologised consequently," Mr Anderson said.
"Dr Swan realises that he did provide an opinion that otherwise was unsubstantiated, that was not in keeping with our editorial standards," Mr Anderson said. Six days after the Labor senator's death, Warne died at the same age from a suspected heart attack in Thailand but his death was never linked to the virus either.
