MIRI: A group of young gamblers who sneaked into an illegal online gaming premises in Kuching were in for a surprise when Sarawak police raided it following a tip-off.
The group of four young men and two women were arrested Sunday night in the raid carried out by the Sarawak Police Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism unit.
They are not only facing illegal gambling charges but also for violating the movement control order currently in force during the Covid-19 outbreak. Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Asst Comm Denis Leong said that those arrested were aged between 19 and 25 years old. "Our anti-vice squad raided a shopping area in Kuching Sunday night and arrested the four men and two women who were engaged in online gaming activities."They were also arrested under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulation for violating the MCO," he said Monday .
The charge for violating the MCO carries a jail term of up to two years and a fine of up to RM10,000 upon conviction.
