On Monday, Feb. 20, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) welcomed Congress' additional P500 million for the Antique Airport upgrade and runway extension to boost Western Visayas tourism and lower airfares.
The Department of Transportation on Monday, Feb. 20, welcomed the additional P500 million fund earmarked by the Congress for the upgrade and runway extension of the Antique Airport to boost Western Visayas’ tourism, at the same time, lower airfares.
Under the 2023 General Appropriations Act , an amount of P500 million will be allocated under the Construction, Rehabilitation, and Improvement of other Transportation Infrastructure-Aviation. Specifically, the fund will be used for the relocation and replication of Salazar Elementary School and expanding the Antique Airport runway, according to DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Roberto Lim.
Part of the amount will also be used for the construction of a Passenger Terminal Building , Control Tower, and Fire House. The fund allocation will attract more tourists and boost economic activities in Antique and in the rest of Western Visayas.
