The Department of Transportation will begin to require trucks and passenger buses to install speed limiting device s to promote road safety.According to a report in State of the Nation on Tuesday, the policy is in line with the “Speed Limiter Act of 2016.”The said law provides the installation of devices that would limit the vehicle’s maximum speed to only up to 90 kilometers per hour.
Under the law, a driver who operates or the owner of the vehicle who allows its operation without the speed limiting device will be fined with P50,000 and could also face imprisonment.The law was discussed during the hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Services on Monday.The DOTr said it will hold consultations with stakeholders regarding the speed limiters.
