Point Tupper, home to one of the world’s deepest ports, is also the site of EverWind Fuels’ under-development green hydrogen and ammonia production, storage and export facility. Part of the Federal Government’s strategy is to develop regional deployment hubs for hydrogen across the country. Atlantic Canada is well positioned to have several of these regional hubs with the opportunity to become a major exporter of hydrogen gas with its access to deep-water ports.

Part of the Federal Government’s strategy is to develop regional deployment hubs for hydrogen across the country. Atlantic Canada is well positioned to have several of these regional hubs with the opportunity to become a major exporter of hydrogen gas with its access to deep-water ports. Luckily, there are already projects in the planning process in three of the four Atlantic Provinces that might eventually qualify as one of those regional hubs.

One of the opportunities for Atlantic Canada is for the provinces to develop a common set of regulations for the development of green hydrogen projects that are timely and consistent.The Federal Government’s Hydrogen Strategy makes clear that more investment in hydrogen technology and production is not only needed but critical to achieving their goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
