The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced that the minimum wage for domestic workers in Metro Manila and Northern Mindanao will be increased next January 2025.

The minimum wage for domestic workers in Metro Manila and Northern Mindanao will increase next January 2025 after regional wage boards approved the raises, according to the Department of Labor and Employment. The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) approved Wage Order No. NCR-DW-05 issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) National Capital Region, which adds P500 to the monthly salary of domestic workers in the region.

This will bring the sector's monthly minimum wage to P7,000, according to the DOLE. The NWPC also approved the wage order issued by the RTWPB Region X, which adds P1,000 to the salary of domestic workers in the region to reach P6,000 per month. The RTWPB also approved a P23 hike for the minimum wage of the non-agriculture sector and P35 for the agriculture sector, which will be implemented in two tranches. Once implemented, the minimum wage rates per day in Northern Mindanao will range from P446 to P461. Last May, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said that some regional wage boards would conduct a review of the minimum wage rates in each region following the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Meanwhile, the DOLE said the RTWPB V postponed the review of the minimum wage in the Bicol Region due to the impact of typhoon Kristine. It is possible that the review will be continued in February 2025. The RTWPB XI is conducting consultations with stakeholders in January 2025 to review the minimum wage of workers in the region.— from the report by Sundy Locus/FRJ, GMA Integrated New
