JOHOR BARU: In a bid to boost Johor's border economy, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will be having a meeting with the state government soon to discuss areas that could be developed further.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the meeting aims to identify available opportunities for Johor as well as strategic locations that could be developed to spur the state's economy."When we look at the situation after the Covid-19 pandemic and even before we were hit by the pandemic, we can see that there are some small sectors, such as car washes, that are striving. So why don’t we explore other areas that could also be developed," he said.
He said this in a press conference after handing over 'korban' meat to families under his Pulai Parliament at Bandar Uda Utama here. "There is also a need to set up a task force so that we can develop the economic prospects and opportunities for Johor in relation to its border with Singapore and also Indonesia. We could also have an action plan to realise our potential in this area," he said.
He added that his Ministry is also looking into having similar special meetings with the Sabah and Sarawak state governments to also develop its border economy. "Similarly, we will also have engagements with the Sabah and Sarawak governments to develop their border economy as there is a huge potential for these two states once Nusantara has been developed," he said.
