With the permanent closure of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced its collaboration with the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry to assist affected workers. DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma revealed a partnership with the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to offer higher-paying jobs to those displaced by the POGO ban. While job fairs and upskilling programs continue, displaced workers are encouraged to explore new opportunities within the BPO sector or apply for livelihood programs to start their own businesses.
With the permanent closure of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators in the country, the Department of Labor and Employment announced on Wednesday that it will collaborate with the business process outsourcing industry to provide new opportunities for displaced workers.
“Nagbabago kami ngayon ng istratehiya, in coordination with the business organization, particular itong IT Business Process Association of the Philippines, tinitingnan namin iyong mga trabaho sa kanila na medyo mas mataas ang antas ng suweldo o benepisyo para ma-engganyo iyong mga ‘ika nga ay naapektuhan ng closure,” he said.
Laguesma explained that the low turnout can be attributed to workers seeking new jobs with similar pay to what they earned at POGO operations. Under the Project DAPAT , job fairs will continue to be held, along with upskilling and retraining programs for workers whose current skills do not meet employer requirements.
