Ward 3 councillors propose a designated area for food trucks

Adding to the soon-to-be-completed downtown plaza, two city councillors are proposing the city build a covered structure somewhere downtown to serve as the hub of a new food truck park.

Ward 3 Couns. Angela Caputo and Ron Zagordo are proposing the structure would house a bar and seating area.The meeting will be livestreamed on SooToday starting at 4:30 p.m.Whereas a great deal of interest around food trucks has been expressed by citizens and entrepreneurs alike; and Whereas having a designated area for the operation of food trucks would make obtaining a permit and doing business in Sault Ste. Marie more attractive to operators; and

Whereas food trucks would bring a new facet to the already vibrant and diverse food scene in Sault Ste. Marie; andNow therefore be it resolved that staff be requested to report on the feasibility of the construction of a covered structure within the downtown area to house a bar and seating area which would be the hub of the food truck park as well as determine an equitable application process for food truck operators to be able to participate in this venture.
