Realising he had no way of contesting the ball, Bowey turned his back on the incoming ball and faced Lever, who flanked the marking contest, as Kennedy came flying in from the side. Lever flew in the air to spoil Kennedy but inadvertently clocked his teammates on the head with his knee. Bowey fell limp before he even hit the ground, appearing to lose all control of his body before he thudded into the MCG turf.Play continued around him for a brief moment but Bowey was left motionless on the ground.“Bowey’s in some strife here. They’ve got to stop this game,” James Brayshaw said on commentary for Channel 7.
A trainer rushed to his side and play was eventually stopped as cameras pictured a distressing scene.The mobile stretcher initially started coming out to get him off the ground, but was turned away when Bowey was able to stand and walk off the ground.
