The opposition has ramped up pressure on the government to negotiate with Beijing, after Trade Minister Don Farrell returned from China with no breakthrough on Australian exports.
“And in this case many people would have hoped with that visit by Don Farrell that we would see actual outcomes. Sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case.”
“We made the decision on coming to Government 12 months ago we wanted to stabilise our relationship with the Chinese Government and to get our relationship back on track and to lift all these trade impediments,” he said. The meeting between Mr Farrell and Mr Wang was the first of its kind since Mr Birmingham was trade minister in 2019.
