Some devotees who couldn't attend the Pahalik at Quirino Grandstand went to the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno or Quiapo Church on Wednesday to pray and fulfill their vows. Among them were Lorna Arcano, Evelyn, and Norie Sevilla. Lorna, a breast cancer patient, underwent surgery last year. Aside from praying for a complete recovery, she also asked the Nazarene for her son's healing. 'He's the only one I believe in. There's no one else.
And everything you ask for, he will surely fulfill... He's the best, greatest doctor,' Lorna said. Her fellow senior citizen, Evelyn, also went to church despite being in a wheelchair, continuing her vow to the Nazarene this year. 'I always visit the Lord Jesus Nazareno, especially when my husband passed away. When my husband fell ill in 2017, I prayed to Him every Friday. My only prayer is that He give us strength,' Evelyn said. Norie Sevilla's group came all the way from Calamba, Laguna. They also won't be able to attend the Traslacion on Thursday, January 9, so they went to church on Wednesday. 'We have many fulfilled dreams that He has helped us with,' Norie said. Fr. Robert Arellano, the Quiapo Church spokesperson, said there are indeed devotees who avoid the crowd on January 9. Fiesta Mass was held throughout Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. 'We have devotees who don't go to the Church on January 9 because they know there are a lot of people and they don't want to take risks. So ahead of time, they want to go to church. That's the reason why as early as 3 in the afternoon, the Masses to be held are for the January 9 Mass,' Fr. Robert said.
