Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has stayed busy on the opening day of free agency; he announced that the club has signed forward Tim Gettinger to a one-year, two-way contract.Gettinger spent the entire 2022-23 season with the New York Rangers American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Gettinger notched 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points in 52 games and added two goals and eight points in nine AHL Playoff games.
He was originally selected in the 2016 NHL Draft No. 141 by the Rangers. Gettinger spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Soo Greyhounds. He was named to the OHL First All-Rookie Team in 2014-15 after recording 25 points, a plus-10 rating and 13 penalty minutes in 54 regular-season games.
Gettinger made his NHL debut in 2018-19 with the Rangers, going scoreless in four games. Throughout his NHL career thus far, the Cleveland, Ohio, winger has collected one assist in 16 games. Meanwhile, in the AHL, he has registered 62 goals and 71 assists for 133 points in 237 AHL games. Gettinger is expected to play in the AHL for the 2023-24 season, with the Grand Rapids Griffins to start the season.
