Thompson added it’s also too early to confirm when the pre-construction process will wrap up, as some details from the previous arena deal — which broke down in late 2021 — will be reincorporated into the new, larger project’s scope. During Thursday’s announcement, the city confirmed CAA ICON will be the development manager for the project, while international firm HOK and Calgary-based architecture company Dialog will collaborate on crafting the event centre’s design.

A stipulation of the previous contract, Thompson said, was the two architectural firms could be retained in the event a new agreement materialized.
