KUCHING, March 19 — A total of 23 new Digital Economic Centres will be established in Sarawak this year to promote and increase the level of internet literacy among the public.
Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching said that presently Sarawak has a total of 133 PEDi statewide. She said the setting up of the centres is also part of the government’s bigger plan to have at least one internet centre at each state constituency throughout the country. “With the PEDi we can teach especially the rural folks how they can utilise the internet and be part of the digital economy as well.
“It is also the aim of my ministry that by 2025, the digital economy can contribute at least 25.5 per cent to the country’s gross domestic product ,” she told reporters after visiting Radio Televisyen Malaysia Kuching here, today. — Bernama
