The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday defended over P300 million spent on trainings and seminars which the Commission on Audit (COA) red-flagged as
“The Department of Education actually has the largest budget in the government. We have about 900,000 total employees. Meron na kaming policy na inilagay na limitahan ang training ng employees, especially ng teachers,” DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said in an interview with DZMM.
According to the COA, of the 3.4 million idle learning materials, 1.6 million were procured in 2015, 1.2 million in 2016, 440,591 in 2014, and 128,111 in 2017. She also said that they cannot give a training budget of more than P2,000 per person a day, adding that it’s impossible for them to pay for a hotel that costs more than P2,000 per day.
