The Department of Education (DepEd) emphasizes the importance of responsible AI integration in education during International Day of Education 2025, highlighting partnerships with edtech companies and AI-powered tools like Khanmigo.

The Department of Education (DepEd) marked International Day of Education (IDE) 2025 on January 24th with a call for responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The theme for this year's celebration, 'AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,' was addressed at the DepEd Central Office, emphasizing the need to harness AI's potential while safeguarding human capabilities.

DepEd Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Fatima Lipp Panontongan highlighted the department's commitment to integrating AI and technology in education through collaborations with edtech companies. 'Let us champion the use of AI as a tool for empowerment, not replacement. Let us equip our youth with the wisdom to use it responsibly. Together, let us create a future where technology amplifies human potential rather than diminishes it,' she stated. The event showcased DepEd's partnership with Khan Academy through Khanmigo, an AI-powered educational assistant, demonstrating how edtech can address common learning delivery challenges. Panontongan emphasized that embracing these advancements is crucial for ensuring the next generation – Gen Z, Alpha, Beta, and beyond – is nurtured, informed, and inspired. International Day of Education, observed annually on January 24th, promotes support for education, urging individuals, civil society, and policymakers to take action towards guaranteeing access to primary and secondary education for all children and fostering youth engagement in learning. The IDE 2025 celebration drew representatives from key organizations, including Unesco, Seameo Innotech, DOST, Unicef Philippines, and Unesco Jakarta. Exhibits on AI and education were displayed by partners such as Felta, Cistem, STI, Samsung, Unilab, and iAcademy, further emphasizing the growing role of AI in shaping the future of education
