On the topic of government shutdowns, there appears to be a resolution at hand to the strange incident of Democratic congressman Jamaal Bowman pulling a fire alarm last month during a tense moment in spending negotiations, the Guardian’s Martin Pengelly reports: The Democratic New York congressman Jamaal Bowman said he would plead guilty to a misdemeanour charge and pay a fine for pulling a fire alarm in a congressional building as a crucial vote neared last month.
In a statement, Bowman said: “I’m thankful for the quick resolution from the District of Columbia attorney general’s office on this issue and grateful that the United States Capitol police general counsel’s office agreed I did not obstruct nor intend to obstruct any House vote of proceedings. “I am responsible for activating a fire alarm, I will be paying the fine issued, and look forward to these charges ultimately being dropped.
