“Our role in animal welfare is no longer just about advocating for animals,” Toronto Humane Society senior manager of social work Dillon Dodson said.

The Toronto Humane Society operates a number of programs designed to keep pets and their owners together despite difficult circumstances. Dodson said most people who enter the program are experiencing housing precarity, health issues or domestic violence.
