Port Metro Vancouver is delaying the start of its Rolling Truck Age program, cheering some port truckers, dismaying Strathcona residents.

However, the delay frustrates Dan Jackson, president of the Strathcona Residents Association whose members live in a neighbourhood hemmed in by Clark Drive, a route that suffers some of the worst air quality in Canada due to diesel pollution, Hastings Street and heavy-traffic rail line. In its statement, the port said its Rolling Truck Age Program was the result of negotiations with the trucking sector that date back to 2012, but as an organization had been putting stricter environmental requirements in place to reduce air emissions from container terminals since 2008.Article content
BCTA CEO Dave Earle did not respond to a Postmedia request for an interview before deadline Friday, but in previous coverage noted truckers have known for a long time that the requirements were coming.
