THUNDER BAY — Delaney Arena is set to reopen on Tuesday after being closed last week due to a cooling system failure.

The arena, located on Legion Track Drive, had a failure of its in-slab cooling system but interim repair efforts have been successful, city officials said in a Monday afternoon news release. On Nov. 9, staff had noticed noticed a significant drop in the amount of brine, the fluid that runs in the piping below the rink surface that keeps the ice frozen, in the arena's refrigeration system. When the closure was announced, a definitive timeframe for its reopening was not known.“Without prompt action by arena staff last week when they detected the problem, more ice time would have been lost,” Gale said in a written statement.

City officials said the problem was isolated and addressed over the weekend. The system's brine was refilled and all lines were pressure tested.
