AN Ijaw leader, Sukubo Sara-Igbe, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare the result of the March 9 governorship elections in Rivers State and resolve the political logjam s
urrounding the poll in the state.
Sara-Igbe stated that the African Action Congress candidate, Biokpomabo Awara, was leading before the process was suspended by INEC following reports of violence and intimidation across the state. Speaking on behalf of the Ijaw nation on Saturday in Port Harcourt, he told newsmen that any attempt by INEC to circumvent the results would meet an unpredictable reaction from the Ijaw nation.
He said, “We are asking the Federal Government and INEC in particular to be independent; let them show they are truly independent as enshrined in our constitution by declaring the winner of the just-concluded election. “If that is not done and we are taken for granted, then the nation will hear from us. I repeat, if INEC refuses to do the needful and they circumvent these results, then the Ijaw nation will react in a manner that the country and the world at large will be surprised.“Nigerians should realise that the economy of this nation is in the hands of the Ijaw people and we will not compromise our resolve to fights for our fundamental human rights as enshrined in our constitution.”All rights reserved.
