PETALING JAYA: A compulsive need to shop led to crippling debts of over RM100,000 and drove a mother to the brink.
An obsession with buying things led to multiple loans from moneylenders. From January till now, she had borrowed money from at least 39 moneylenders with combined debts of RM67,200.
On April 17, her husband, Lim, 32, found a letter written by his wife in which she apologised and asked him to take care of their three children.When numerous calls to her went unanswered, he broke the door down and found her on the floor in a weak state.According to Lim, Chik is still hospitalised at the intensive care unit.Lim stressed that his wife was not a gambler or involved in any investment schemes.
“Everybody tended to spend money a little more than usual if it’s the holiday season but they would be able to stop themselves from going overboard.“Then after doing so, they will be overcome by negative thoughts, which may then lead to depression,” he said.
