Eight people have died and seven others were injured in a landslide at a popular camping site near Malaysia’s Genting Highlands on Friday.
About 92 victims were recovered at the site located near an organic farm in Gohtong Jaya, and 53 were found safe, the National Disaster Management Agency said on Twitter. The rescue efforts were still underway.
Gohtong Jaya is a satellite town in Genting Highlands, a hill station in the peninsular state of Pahang. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department chief Norazam Khamis was reported by Bernama news agency as saying that firefighters began arriving at the scene half an hour after receiving a distress call at 2.24am. .
