Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said the practice has been effective in combating food contamination.

Mahadi said DBKL was targetting to collect 120 food samples daily throughout the month to be sent to the Food Security and Analysis Centre for testing.“We will blacklist the traders and will not approve their applications for licences the following year.” The campaign also bans traders from using plastic bags, plastic straws and polystyrene to package food at the bazaars.The campaign also urges visitors to bring their own containers when buying food at Ramadan bazaars.Also present at the launch were the Prime Minister’s political secretary Azman Abidin, DBKL Health and Environment Department director Dr Umi Ahmad and DBKL executive director Datuk Azmi Abdul Hamid.
