The Davao City Council approved the closure of several major roads for a nationwide peace rally organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on January 13, 2025.

The Davao City Council approved the closure of several roads for a simultaneous nationwide peace rally organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Partial road closure s will take place on January 11, affecting San Pedro Street, C.M. Recto Avenue, Pelayo Street, Iñigo Street, C. Bangoy Street, Rizal Street, Bonifacio Street, and Palma Gil Street from 9:00 PM on January 11 to 4:00 AM on January 12.

Starting January 13, a 'full and total road closure' will be implemented on the same roads from 8:00 AM until the program concludes. In addition, the Davao City Coastal Road from Tulip Drive to Bago Aplaya will have partial closures starting January 13. Councilor Conrado Baloran, chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Communications, explained that this is related to the nationwide peace rally organized by the INC. Bong Estudillo, regional legal officer of the INC in Davao Region, stated that the rally aims to promote peace and that they support President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.'s stance against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. He emphasized that addressing pressing national issues should be prioritized. He also revealed that over 300,000 INC members from Davao Region and Soccsksargen will participate. However, Councilor Jesus Joseph P. Zozobrado III, chairman of the Committee on Rules, Privileges, Laws, and Ordinances, expressed concerns about the road closures, particularly as these are major thoroughfares for the business sector in the city. Bernard Al-ag also pointed out that starting January 13, the road closures will cause heavy traffic congestion. Meanwhile, Dionisio Abude, head of the City Transport and Traffic Management Office, stated that even partial road closures will significantly affect vehicle traffic
