The City Government of Davao has extended a helping hand to Local Government Units (LGUs) severely impacted by the eruption of Mount Kanlaon in January 2025, providing approximately P3 million in calamity assistance. This aid aims to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas, ultimately improving the living conditions of the victims and their communities.

The City Government of Davao has provided calamity assistance of approximately P3 million to Local Government Units (LGUs) that declared a State of Calamity due to the eruption of Mount Kanlaon . Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz announced that the 20th City Council approved the P3.8 million calamity assistance for LGUs heavily impacted by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on January 28, 2025.

Ortiz, who chairs the Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, and Appropriations, stated that this is the first calamity assistance for fiscal year 2025 and emphasized that the city's Quick Response Fund (QRF) remains sufficiently funded. The QRF has an appropriation of P212 million, and after deducting the P3.8 million allocated for calamity assistance, the city council assures there are still ample resources to aid other provinces, municipalities, or cities in case of future calamities.Ortiz highlighted the city's tradition of extending assistance to LGUs in need, a practice that continued even during the term of former President Rodrigo Duterte. The LGUs receiving the calamity assistance are the Province of Negros Oriental (P1 million), the Province of Negros Occidental (P1 million), the City of Canlaon (P500,000), the City of La Carlota (P500,000), the City of Bago (P500,000), and the Municipality of Vallehermoso (P300,000). The financial aid aims to support the respective relief and rehabilitation programs of these LGUs, ultimately aiming to improve the living conditions of the affected victims and communities. The eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on December 9, 2024, caused significant damage estimated at millions of pesos in Western Visayas. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that as of December 31, 2024, approximately 12,043 families in 26 villages across Western Visayas and Central Visayas were affected by the eruption. Of these affected families, 4,420 were in evacuation centers, while the remaining 7,623 were receiving aid outside of these centers.
