Singer Datuk Jamal Abdillah expressed sadness over not being able to visit the late Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab before his passing. He intended to visit the maestro at his residence but was advised against it due to his health.

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Datuk Jamal Abdillah expressed regret for not being able to visit the late Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab, a renowned music maestro, at his residence yesterday. According to Jamal, he had intended to visit the famous composer and lyricist at his home in Gombak but was advised by the deceased's family against doing so due to the maestro's fragile health condition.

“Two days ago, I contacted his son, Ismail, and told him I wanted to visit the deceased yesterday, but Ismail advised me to wait because Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab had just been discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN). “If I couldn't meet him yesterday, today I am in Johor, but I will try to attend his funeral tomorrow. “I feel regretful for not being able to meet him yesterday, because I really wanted to see him. Being informed of this sad news today is indeed disheartening,” he said when contacted here this evening. Meanwhile, Jamal said the deceased was considered like an elder brother and his family. “Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab was a gentle person, not talkative, but his songs have blossomed until today. Most fans want me to sing his songs as well. “He was like an elder brother to me, he was close to me. When we went to record, I felt comfortable and familiar with him. “He taught me a lot in terms of delivery because he was someone who wanted perfection. He took care of everything, and I learned a lot from him,” he said. Jamal revealed that his last collaboration with the late maestro was through a tribute concert organized by his company, Binjamal Event, and the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) at Istana Budaya last year.
