According to 2018 court documents, former marine operations director David Lochridge had refused to greenlight manned tests of the early models of the submersible after identifying “numerous issues that posed serious safety concerns”. He claims he “offered corrective action and recommendations” but his advice was ignored.
Its occupants include Harding; British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman; and French maritime expert Paul Henri Nargeolet. OceanGate chief executive Stockton Rush, whose Seattle-based company runs the Titanic expeditions at a cost of $US250,000 a ticket, is also on board. But with time running out, the rescue mission has now been expanded to allow authorities to look deeper. A deep vessel with remote operating vehicle capabilities arrived on the scene today and a Canadian aircraft was conducting searches of the area, Frederick said.
