From the moment his return to the Formula 1 grid was confirmed in July, Daniel Ricciardo has made it clear his goal is to take back the Red Bull Racing seat he gave up five years ago
Daniel Ricciardo insists he will be content if his Formula 1 career does not end with a fairytale Red Bull return.
Ricciardo is guaranteed a place with the team in 2024, but has made no secret of his ultimate desire to return to the main Red Bull team. He walked away five years ago for a fresh start, but never quite found the success he was searching for. Now 34, he wants to take his final shot at becoming team-mate to Max Verstappen once again.
"I do like Helmut and his hard approach – I'm a nice, easy-going person but his approach really does work for me. I think it gets a little more out of myself. And Christian I've always had a good relationship with. I just feel like the chemistry in the team is really good and I like that. Sergio Perez is out of contract at the end of next season and also out of form this term, making it very realistic that there may be an opening at Red Bull as soon as in 2025. Ricciardo has the chance to audition for that place, but will by 35 years old while most of his rivals for that seat, should it become available, while be more long-term options.
