Sim had never held public office before being sworn in as Vancouver’s mayor. He worked as an accountant and investment banker before co-founding twothat still operate today: health-care company Nurse Next Door and Rosemary Rocksalt bagel bakeries. Sim said the proposed extension of Broadway subway to the University of B.C. would be “transformational” for Vancouver, connecting the Downtown business district and the Broadway corridor’s health-care institutions with UBC, the province’s second-largest commuter destination.

“They really do want to take action on a number of initiatives, and what I’m hearing from members, is that this is a real shift and a welcome shift,” Anderson said.
