A District police officer shot a man in the city’s Foggy Bottom neighborhood Saturday afternoon, after the man allegedly stabbed the officer in the neck, police said. The officer was trying to take him for a mental health evaluation. The man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident happened about 2:30 p.m. outside the Columbia Plaza apartment building, near the intersection of 24th Street and Virginia Avenue in the vicinity of the Kennedy Center. Second District Commander Tatjana Savoy said the sequence of events actually began hours earlier, when a friend of the man called 911 at 10:40 a.m. to report that he was having a mental health crisis.
