: Cyclone Mocha that hit Myanmar last month “largely destroyed” temporary shelters for the displaced in the northern parts of the country, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations said in a statement on Tuesday.
Around 700,000 houses were damaged throughout the country due to Cyclone Mocha, according to the UN Development Programme. As more heavy rainfalls are expected to come, increasing the risk of floods and landslides due to the monsoon season in the region, the Asean has scheduled transportation of more relief supplies for June 16 and 22 by sea.
The final batches, comprising non-food items and water and sanitation hygiene kits, are expected to arrive in Myanmar on June 20 and 27.
